Description

Sometime in the early 2010s, the internet started directing culture. No longer were magazine editors and record execs making stars, they were finding them online with the hope of capturing these artists’ viral successes. Among that wave of internet-first creatives was the Bay Area’s Natassia Gail Zolot aka Kreayshawn, whose 2011 track & video Gucci Gucciwas a massive hit that remains an epic encapsulation of that time.

Natassia talks to NM about early-'10s internet culture and how the ensuing rise of web2 social media majorly changed the terms of fame. In the decade since, Natassia has become something of a DIY HTML evangelist, attracting a new generation to a more underground internet with her site smile.rip.
