Written in real-time as he and Carly travelled with an infant from Berlin to Virginia Beach and then northern Baltimore County, the piece unfolds across a particularly American mix of airport hotels, Amtrak stations, CVS aisles, and a hospital ER, with the ever-present signal of TV transmitting (and motion-smoothing) the national zeitgeist.
