Not being "of the world," as Jesus describes every man of God, means we have a different source, a different means of influence, and a different mindset living "in the world." When Jesus briefed the disciples about their mission on earth he said it has to come with a mindset: "I am sending you out like sheep among wolves." Jesus didn't provide false hope or codependent comfort. He gave it to them straight. He did not want them to be ignorant. He needed them to think right about themselves and the spiritual reality surrounding them in the world as it related to their mission. Think about wolves for second - you don't want to be caught alone against a pack of them. The solution for this? Be shrewd and be innocent. In today's cultural riptide Christians are surrounded by strong and powerful mindsets that are not of God but of the world. Their influence over us is subtle but effective. Jesus says you have to be alert and sober to the reality of the spiritual battle being waged in between your ears. You have to have the right mindset to not just survive but take territory for God. In the midst of cultural upheaval and challenge, God's men must be shrewd and be innocent to advance God's Kingdom and not be hijacked by the enemy.
