In this week’s podcast I talk about freedom without consequences. It sounds like a movie title, doesn’t it? And in a way it is a fairy tale; yet this concept underpins so many of the social movements towards change.
We spend so much time trying to change the behaviour of others, either in our personal lives or the collective, because we feel offended or threatened. Yet these feelings come from a deep sense of unworthiness; an unconscious feeling that we all have in common.
We may act it out in different ways; criticising or controlling others, demanding attention and validation or people-pleasing. These defence mechanisms are all attempts to prove our worthiness. Yet these behaviours don’t heal our wounds and make us feel separate from one other.
I ask why we feel that having no consequences to our actions equals freedom and empowerment and how can we create strong, yet malleable personal boundaries that allow us all to be our true selves.
