Dentro del homenaje que estamos haciendo a la música para el western como género cinematográfico, teníamos claro que Jerry Goldsmith debía tener un programa monográfico dada la enorme cantidad de películas y series de TV que compuso ambientadas en el Oeste.
Aunque no fue tan innovador en el género como Dimitri Tiomkin, Ennio Morricone o Elmer Bernstein, es indudable su camaleónica ductilidad para dar su toque personal marcado por temas potentes y rítmicos, a la vez que dejando incómodos silencios para potenciar la tensión, sin por ello evitar la melodía para la que estaba especialmente dotado.
De entre los muchos títulos que escribió para el cine del Oeste hemos seleccionado poco más de una docena entre los que escuchareis sus composiciones para “100 RIFLES”, “BANDOLERO”, “LOS VALIENTES ANDAN SOLOS”, “RIO CONCHOS” o “HACIA LOS GRANDES HORIZONTES” entre otros, pero ya os adelantamos que vendrán otros programas dedicados a Jerry Goldsmith, para dejar constancia de su extraordinaria capacidad creadora en todo tipo de géneros.
