For "Bad Boy" Sir Richard Starkey collaborated again with producer Vini Poncia, together they decided to turn Ringo's sound into a different direction than what they had done previously in "Ringo the 4th", because of the bad reception of that album. Bad Boy's first single was a cover of Benny Spellman's original "Lipstick Traces (on a Cigarette)". Unfortunately, after three consecutive comercially unsucessful albums, Polydor dropped Ringo, while in the US, Portrait would eventually cancel his contract.
Para "Bad Boy", Sir Richard Starkey volvió a trabajar con el productor musical Vini Poncia. Juntos giraron el sonido de Ringo a una dirección distinta al que lo habían llevado en "Ringo the 4th", debido a la malas críticas que recibió ese disco. El primer sencillo de "Bad Boy" fue un cover de una canción original de Benny Spellman, "Lipstick Traces (on a Cigarette). Desafortunadamente, después de tres discos comercialmente fallidos, Polydor quitó a Sir Richard de su catálogo y poco después en Estados Unidos Portrait optaría por cancelar su contrato.
