Here is a reflection upon the birth of John the Baptist: himself being a miracle conceived, and elected to prepare the way of the Lord. John deemed as ’Son of Promise’, we see many related prophesies from the Old Testament come to be, which is culminated in Zechariah’s hymn of praise, the Benedictus. Still the ultimate fulfillment of God’s mercy, of course, is manifest in the birth of Christ - for which now is apt occasion for us to give thanks.
