Mankind has needed saving ever since sin entered the world. 1 John 4:14 tells us that God sent Jesus to be our Savior. Jesus paid our debt once and for all according to Hebrews 7 so that if we put our belief in Jesus, we WILL be saved and have eternal life! (John 3:16-18, John 17:3) This whole season is meaningless without the birth of our Savior.
