This week we review the debut album from Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five titled The Message. Named after their massive hit song The Message, this album showcases the cohesiveness of the five rappers' (Melle Mel, Kidd Creole, Keef Cowboy, Scorpio and Rahiem) ability to rap off one another with precision, setting the tone for what a rap group should sound like.
Grandmaster Flash himself showcases his skills as well, providing cutting and scratching techniques that were very innovative at the time.
The highlight of this album is definitely the song The Message, providing social commentary about the stress of inner-city poverty that was unlike anything heard in the early stages of hip-hop.
