Bob leads us through the stories of Jacob and the favor of God's promises to Abraham being passed on to Jacob. We learn of God promising the land and that through Jacob's seed all nations will be blessed. We learn of Jacob's 2 wives and their handmaids and their 12 sons who are the progenitors of the twelve tribes of Israel. We see the conflict between Laban and Jacob in light of putting God first, and of Jacob's wrestling with God and being renamed Israel. His identity changes from Jacob, the supplanter, to Israel, he who wrestled with God and prevails. We discuss the 12 sons through the story of Joseph and God's grace and provision in both Joseph's personal life and also for the other sons of Israel all according to God's plan for redeeming a people for Himself.
