OrEd-T-20.4-Sin as an Adjustment.2

22. The world believes in sin, but the belief that made the world as I see it, is within myself. I will not try to make the Son of God adjust to his insanity. There is a stranger who carelessly wandered into the home of truth, and he will wander off again. He came without a purpose, and he will leave, because I accepted the shining light the Holy Spirit offered. For in the light I am welcome, but the stranger is made homeless.

23. I should not ask this transient stranger, "What am I?" He is the only thing in all the universe that does not know. Yet, I did ask him, "What am I?", and I try to adjust to his answer. This wild thought becomes my guide to the meaning of the universe, slipping unnoticed through the universe of truth. It is arrogant and fierce, and yet so meaningless and tiny. In all the seeing universe, I ask the one blind thing, "How shall I look upon the Son of God?"

24. One does not ask judgment of what is totally bereft of judgment. And if I did, would I believe the answer, and adjust to the answer as if it were the truth? The world I look on is the answer that it gave me, and I have given it the power to adjust the world, to make its answer "true". I asked this puff of madness for the meaning of our unholy relationship, and adjusted the relationship according to its insane answer. Did it make me happy? Did we meet with joy to bless the Son of God and give thanks to him for all the happiness which he held out to me? Did we recognize each other as the eternal gift of God to us? Did we see the holiness that shone in both of us to bless the other? That is the purpose of our holy relationship. I will not ask the one thing that still would have our relationship be unholy. I give it no power to adjust.

25. Prisoners bound with heavy chains for years, starved and emaciated, weak and exhausted, with eyes so long cast down in darkness they do not remember the light, do not leap up in joy the instant they are made free. It takes a while for them to understand what freedom is. We groped feebly in the dust, and found each other's hand, uncertain whether to take hold on life so long forgotten, or to let it go. We will strengthen our hold and raise our eyes to our strong companion, in whom the meaning of our freedom lies. He seemed to be crucified beside us, and yet his holiness remained untouched and perfect. With him beside us, we shall this day enter with him into Paradise and know the peace of God.

26. This is Jesus's will for both of us, and for each of us for one another and for himself. In Heaven there is only holiness and joining without limit. For Heaven is union, direct, perfect, and without the veil of fear. Here we are one, looking with perfect gentleness on ourselves and upon each other. Here, all thoughts become impossible of any separation between us. We who were prisoners in separation, are made free in Paradise. And here Jesus unites with us, his friends, his brothers, and his Self. Our gift to each other has given him the certainty that our union will be soon.

27. We share this faith with Jesus, and know that faith is justified. Because perfect love knows no sin, there is no fear, and it looks on others as on itself. Looking within with charity, perfect love has no fear without. The innocent see safety, and the pure in heart see God within His Son. They look to the Son to lead them to the Father. They go only where they will to be. As surely as God created His Son holy and kept him so, now each of us will lead the other to the Father. The light of God's eternal promise of immortality is in our brother. There can be no fear in me, for I see my brother sinless.
