Contemplating and attempting suicide is 80% due to depression and highly correlated with feelings of hopelessness. It are insurmountable obstacles which brings a person to this "edge". There are many underlying issues such as chronic loneliness, guilt, self-punishment, shame, fear, a way of escape, reunion with loved ones, or a impulsive reaction to something.
