This move, framed by Peacock as a necessary reinvestment in content, feels like a familiar shell game for WWE devotees, who now face increased costs to access the same programming that was once included at a lower price, or even offered via the now-defunct WWE Network.
The impact is clear: WWE programming, despite its soaring Netflix deal for RAW internationally, will become a more expensive proposition for its domestic streaming audience. Adding another layer to this calculated financial maneuvering, WWE has simultaneously unveiled a new partnership with Fandango and Regal Cinemas to bring Premium Live Events to movie theaters, starting with the two-night SummerSlam.
While marketed as an "immersive, action-packed event," this cinematic offering for an additional ticket price ($25 per night, or a bundle for both) further fragments the viewing experience and drains more money from fans, all while ensuring WWE maintains maximum revenue streams, whether through increased streaming subscriptions or opportunistic theatrical ventures.
