Description

Quals is short for to qualifications.  This is a term I picked up from my husband and is used to describe the type of job functions an employee is trained to perform.  Where he works, they tend to send you to a class for training , testing and then the qual shows up on your employee record if you pass the course.  Even with a sophisticated system like this one, it does not cover all aspects of a person's official and unofficial job duties.  To be honest, most of us go through our days following an absent minded routine.  We know what to do and we just do it.  So when it’s time to articulate those quals, it’s a lot tougher than it seems.  This is definitely a challenge that I experienced as I began my job hunt.  So I want to take you though the process I went through to help me articulate my value.

* State the obvious
* State the not so obvious
* Consider the skills you ignore
* Consider your transferable skills
