• Supplements are just that a supplement.

• The only time you would ever need to take a supplement is when you are deficient in that particular area.  I know you have probably seen 1000’s of magazines trying to sell you supplements telling you need to take this and that but that’s not the truth.  Although, they do a pretty good job at it right?

• Since, I already answered the question to yes you can see a body transformation without supplements, lets take a look at when you might actually need to include them into your daily diet.
Lack Protein

Now that you have seen my top five supplements that you might need to take (as of today), I will now discuss when and why you might need to take these.
Lack of Protein
You may need to consume a protein supplement is you’re a vegetarian athlete.  The reason being, you might not be able to consume enough calories and protein from your vegetarian diet. If this is the case, you might find yourself consuming a one or two scopes of a vegan protein powder daily.
Lack of Carbohydrates
You may need to consume a carbohydrate supplement if you’re a marathon runner and are unable to consume enough carbohydrates to maintain energy for your race or training.  Consuming additional carbohydrates before a race is common practice called carb loading.
Lack of Vitamin D
You many need to take a vitamin D supplement in the winter if you’re unable to get outside in the sun.  This is common with older people because they lack the mobility to enjoy the outdoors and the sunshine.  The sun and foods we eat are the main sources of vitamin D.  These foods include fish oils and egg yolks.
Lack of Sleep
You may need to consume some type of an energy supplement to push you along throughout the day if you’re lacking sleep or motivation.  Coffee, caffeine and teas are all sources of “energy” that we have all taken some point in our lives but do we really need them?  NO.  Do we take them because we have a lack of sleep? NO.  I think it’s more of a lack of motivation but I discuss my thoughts on this a different day.
Lack of Fish Oils (EPA and DHA)
Fish oils are great for our heart and blood vessels and we as a society don’t consume enough of them and that is why most people supplement with fish oils.  Do you have to supplement, no, you just need to consume enough fish products that contain EPA and DHA.  Also, by consuming fish, you will increase your protein intake which in return, you could stop taking your protein supplement.
There you have my top five supplements (as of today) that you might need to take.  Just remember, you don’t need to take supplements to see a body transformation, just lots of time and hard work.
