This is Casey Miller and here is your fitness question of the day. What is the best way to develop willpower?
To
me the best way to develop willpower is to create a goal and it has to
be a goal that is so powerful that you will do whatever it takes to
complete it.
Since this is fitness
related, let's say you are older, maybe in your 20s or 30s and you are
done participating in high school or college sports your willpower is
probably low and you might lack motivation.
As
you might remember, your whole life revolved around your sport and you
would wake up early to workout, go to practice and then come home for a
final workout.
Now that it’s over,
you may have gained 20 pounds and you want to get back into shape but
just saying you want to get into shape and lose weight doesn’t make for a
great goal and you will probably quit pretty quickly.
So for me, one way to achieve your goal is to find some type of competition that you want to participate in, maybe that is a half marathon or a 10 mile bike ride,
whatever it is you need to sign up that competition, pay the hundred
dollar fee that goes along with it and put it on the calendar.
Now,
that I have the date set and unless I want to look like a fool on
competition day, I have to get my butt in gear and go ahead and make
some changes in order to be my best at this competition.
Remember,
this is just one way that you can develop willpower, by setting a goal
and doing whatever it takes to compete in the competition and do your
best.
