Description

I am back with Pilipino Culture Night Coordinator Charlene Nacion to talk about this years CSUN FASA PCN!

Mabuhay! We are the Filipino American Student Association at California State University Northridge!

April 20th, 2019 marks the date of our 34th Annual Pilipino Cultural Night (PCN). This year’s PCN, entitled “Walang Hiya”, translates to “Without Shame”.

—————————-
Synopsis:
Valerie & Travis, two fraternal twins, and their mother Rae, living in America, take a visit to the Philippines to celebrate their 21st birthday. Excited to spend the next few weeks in the homeland, they begin to feel unwelcomed. With their cousins Bea & Brett, and their Tita Lez contributing the most to their flaws & insecurities, they begin to dislike who they are and in essence, begin to hate their Filipino identity. As most cultures come with their societal flaws, Valerie & Travis work together to overcome their personal insecurities and challenge the ideal beauty standards present in the Philippines & the Filipino community.

For the past 33 years, members of our organization have graced the stage with dance and music of the Filipino culture, accompanied by a theatrical interpretation of Filipino and Filipino-American struggles in a student-written script. PCN is a unique performance genre that a celebrates the complexity and beauty found in the nuances of Filipino culture. It is an exploration of the intergenerational differences present in our families. Last but not least, it is a tribute to those who came before us, the strong-willed community among us, and to those who will continue to pave the way for generations to come.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the PCN Coordinator, Charline Nacion.
