This week, the discussion will be with two wonderful young, inspired college entrepreneurs from Dave’s Alma Matter, Therapalz Co-Founders Fiona Kalensky and Isak Massman. Fiona and Isak have used their personal stories that include loved ones with dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease to create a Heart-Centered business using the engineering and business skills they are developing in college. They recognized the need to develop an affordable, non-pharmaceutical intervention in periods of high stress. Through listening and collecting stories from caregivers and their loved ones with Alzheimer's, Fiona and Isak have created a product that truly brings peace and happiness to people.
As family members, they have seen their loved ones go through fluctuations in mood, varying day-to-day and even hour-to-hour. They have seen the difficulties of aging first-hand. Isak saw three of his grandparents struggle with memory disorders throughout his childhood and more specifically, watched his grandmother cope with the difficulties of dementia, and then Alzheimer’s. Growing up, Fiona took care of her great aunt every Sunday and saw her loved ones make the difficult transition from at-home living to nursing home, to hospice.
