I think the best way to quickly introduce you to today’s guest is to read an excerpt of one of his articles. In this particular article he starts off with a quote from one if his favourite bands, The Tragically Hip – “...with illusions of someday casting a golden light, No dress rehearsal, this is our life". Then he went on to use a baseball analogy to summarize some of the game-changing aspects of his life journey.
Strike 1 - I was diagnosed with an incurable blood disease. This was a dramatic piece of news. Being physically fit and still quite young, this news was a shocker. Shortly afterward, strike 2 - I was involved in a serious accident that should have claimed my life. It left me with permanent physical pain, damage to the brain, and a nearly year of rehab. This time in my life was difficult, yet I made the choice, the mindset that I was going to get through this. Near the end of my physio, strike 3 - I was diagnosed with cancer.
Like a player standing at-bat, I swung at the pitches that were thrown at me. Strike one - disease, strike 2 - accident, and strike 3 - cancer. The difference was I was NOT OUT. Like others before me, I did not take my bat and head back to the dugout. I wiped off the dirt and proceeded. I moved on and made my way to the base focused, determined, and with a mindset of #3StrikesYoureIn.
