The story of the "prodigal" was an object lesson taugh by Jesus to reveal to the religious leaders that it is the natural desires of man to seek uninhibited freedom from all moral and spiritual obligations. consequently, like the 'prodigal,' many have blatantly repudiated the safety of the covenant they had with God. Now they are lost in a world of godlessness.
