This episode we get a little bit of Nona's history, which is rather bleak and makes being bought and sold like a sack of potatoes an actual improvement. Nona has only ever had one friend of consequence, and that friend winds up dead because of a total miscarriage of justice. She marks those who committed this crime for death, and considering who has come to pick her up, it seems like that's not an empty promise.
