In the early 2000's, Piracy was at its peak. Many users used file sharing sites like Napster, The Pirate Bay and many others to share stolen music. This caused the music industry to lose billions of dollars in revenue each year. So in 2006, Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon went out to solve this problem of piracy to help fairly compensate artists and record labels for their work. And thus Spotify was born!
