Master Sergeant Gill enlisted in the Marine Corps in February 1995 and reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego CA in March 1995 for recruit training. Upon completion of recruit training and Marine Combat Training, he was transferred to Marine Corps Engineer School, Camp Lejeune NC for training as a Combat Engineer. After completion of MOS school, Private First Class Gill reported to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion where he was assigned to 1st Platoon Company B. In March of 1996 he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal. He then reported for duty to company A where he served as a Fire Team leader. In December 1996 he was promoted meritoriously to the rank of Corporal.
