Gwinnett County will distribute up to $18 million to support and expand affordable housing development across the county.

The distribution is a part of the county’s Affordable Housing Development Fund, which offers funding to support the development of affordable housing for households earning 65 percent or less of Area Median Income. The fund aims to address the impacts the COVID-19 pandemic had on housing.

Eligible projects to receive the funds include land/building acquisition, new construction, rehabilitation of one or more existing buildings, preservation of existing affordable housing units, and adaptive reuse of one or more nonresidential buildings, according to a press release from the county.

“Housing is a human right, and everyone deserves a safe, stable, and affordable place to live,” Gwinnett County Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson, said. “I’m proud of the work we’ve done using federal funding since 2020 to keep people stably housed during the pandemic, and I’m grateful for this opportunity to use these dollars to further address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and support the growth of our local economy.”
