Alberta Premier Danielle Smith holds a news conference in Calgary to highlight a new partnership agreement between TC Energy Corp. and Indigenous communities. Earlier in the day, the Calgary-based energy company announced it has signed a $1-billion deal, backed by the Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation (AIOC), that will enable up to 72 Indigenous communities to purchase a minority stake in its Nova Gas transmission system and Foothills pipeline assets.
Premier Smith is joined by Alberta’s Indigenous Relations Minister Rick Wilson and Energy Minister Brian Jean, as well as Roy Fox (Blackfoot name Makiinima, chief of the Kainai-Blood Tribe), Lee Thom (councillor for the Kikino Metis Settlement), Chana Martineau (CEO of the AIOC), and François Poirier (president and CEO of TC Energy).
