I first became acquainted with author Bernice L McFadden’s work in 2016. Technically, it’s earlier than 2016, because I routinely browsed the Akashic Books website prior to that time. Regardless, “The Book of Harlan” (2016) was the initial read that put me onto McFadden’s undeniable talent. “Praise Song for the Butterflies” (2018) is the author’s most recent literary contribution.
