- A homicide investigation is under way this morning after a person was shot to death in east Bakersfield. Details are limited as officers are still trying to figure out what happened. The shooting happened on Union Avenue near Brundage Lane before midnight.

A fast-moving brush fire burned more than 100 acres near the base of the Grapevine. The so-called "Wind Fire" broke out just after 7 yesterday morning west of Interstate 5, just south of Laval Road.
According to Kern County Fire, it burned 121 acres, but is now 100% contained.
This is just the latest in a string of recent brush fires, including one that shut down Highway 178 through the Kern River Canyon late last week.
