And a high pressure system off the coast of California is basically making the San Joaquin Valley a pressure cooker. - A Bakersfield police officer is being accused of using "unnecessary and unreasonable" force and has been charged with misdemeanor assault Police say Officer Anthony Berumen was arrested yesterday.
But the incident happened about a month ago.
BPD says Berumen responded to the Blanco Hotel on White Lane where a burglary suspect barricaded herself in the bathroom.
Police say she refused to come out and threw glass bottles at the officers.
Officers eventually forced their way into that bathroom....and that's when Berumen released his K-9 on the suspect.
Police said that was "unnecessary and unreasonable" use of force.
The department said the K-9 did not bite the burglary suspect.
Berumen is on administrative leave.
He's been with the department for about 11 years.
Berumen was previously arrested about 6 and a half years ago for driving under the influence in Rosedale.
