Looking Ahead To The Flyers' Future (PST Show #305)
Frankly, the Philadelphia Flyers season, overall, has really, really stunk. It has been a Jekyll and Hyde type of season. As the Flyers are almost eliminated from playoff contention, we're getting into what the future holds for this team as we look to the offseason and the 2019-2020 season. This week, Ryan Gilbert from SonsOfPenn.com joined us for a great discussion about this baffling yet talented team. It's a great interview you won't want to miss!
But first, we got into a discussion about Phil Martelli of St. Joseph's and Fran Dunphy of Temple being removed as head coaches after years of being at the forefront of the Philly college basketball scene. (3:30)
From there, we heard some listener voicemail about how the Eagles will finagle the cap to secure Carson Wentz's long-term deal in the future. (9:35)
We then responded to listener feedback about how the NBA and its pace of play has changed over the years. (14:45)
We then talked about the Sixers big win against the Bucks up in Milwaukee and the momentum they have heading into the postseason. (21:50)
We also touched on how the Phillies not only will be getting on base as they did in 2018, but how we're expecting to see more runs being scored based on the new talent that's on the team. (25:10)
This week on the Highbrow Segment, we dove into a discussion about the NCAA and how that organization is essentially becoming another "pro sports league." Student athletes are not the overall focus of the organization, which has become plainly obvious. What, if any, changes should be made to the NCAA in the future? (29:45)
Our topic for the Lowbrow Segment is our favorite non-corporate stadium and arena names. (38:50)
What we're throwing down on the Table this week is an in-depth interview with Ryan Gilbert from Sons of Penn where we talk about and reflect on the Flyers' season and what we can expect from this team in the future. When a massive shift and change in the front office occurs, we certainly saw an organization and team floundering. Hindsight being 20/20, should the Flyers have tanked the season to get a top draft pick? Which defensemen have a ton of upside, and which ones have some downside? Then we discussed if the Flyers can potentially get even more in a full season from James van Riemsdyk or if we have seen his peak? Also, what offseason moves could we witness to put this team in a better position next season? All of this and much more this week on the Table! (50:30)
