Roy, a former federal prosecutor and banking analyst, is the Republican candidate in Congressional District 21 hoping to replace incumbent Lamar Smith, who is not seeking re-election. He most recently served as the Vice President of Strategy for the Texas Public Policy Foundation. Previously, he served as the first assistant attorney general of Texas under Ken Paxton, chief of staff to U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and as a senior advisor to former Texas Gov. Rick Perry. Roy was also special assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of Texas, and served Sen. John Cornyn as staff director of his leadership office and senior counsel on the Senate Judiciary Committee.
