This week, we've decided to thrown something a little different down on the Table. While we don't necessarily dive into one of the four major Philly sports teams, we brought Scott Spratt (@Scott_Spratt) from Sports Info Solutions onto the show for a fantastic discussion about baseball and sports analytics, and how their industry has become a critical component to the sporting world.
But first, on the Brief News & Views segment:
1. Should Curt Schilling be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame? (5:55)
2. The Phillies invite 16 players to Spring Training. (16:10)
3. The Sixers need to figure out the Okafor/Noel dilemma. (21:25)
4. Eagles news and notes: player signings, WR coaches. (27:45)
5. What kind of team are the Flyers and are they better than .500?
We were only able to get to one story in our Listener Feedback segment that dealt with Len's recent column and what the Flyers goalie situation looks like in the years to come. (43:55)
Then what we're throwing down on the Table is an in-depth interview with Scott Spratt who works in Research and Development with Sports Info Solutions. Scott also writes for ESPN Insider and FanGraphs. During the interview we discuss how the sports analytics world has not only shifted how we as sports fans look at the games of baseball and football, but how the industry is becoming a critical component to many sports teams. Scott gives us his take on who he feels should have a good shot to make the Baseball Hall of Fame based on their career performance and certain Phillies players we should keep our eyes on in the future. There's much more within this interview you won't want to miss. (48:00)
