Alfredo Pascual is the International Analyst at Marijuana Business Daily, specializing in European and Latin American cannabis markets.  The United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs decided to accept one of the World Health Organization recommendations to remove cannabis from Schedule 4 of the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs.  This means that marijuana is no longer considered to be as dangerous as other substances in Schedule 4 of international drug control because it does have some medical utility.  Marijuana does remain in Schedule 1 of international control, but its benefits are recognized.  This decision at the level of the UN will help relieve obstacles to legalization in various countries as support for the benefits of cannabis.
