Starting off a new year is always an interesting kind of experience for me. The promise of a new year is really wrapped up in that word—new. New days, new beginnings, new opportunities, those are the kinds of things that a new year seems to promise. But as the new year begins to take shape, most of the time we come to realize that the word that is most likely to characterize the new year is not new. The word that is most likley to characterize our new year is same—as in, pretty much the same as last year.
