In the summer of 1955, 14-year-old African-American Emmett Till was brutally murdered by two white men after he was accused of whistling at a white woman in a grocery store. Emmett's story and his mother Mamie's efforts helped galvanize the growing civil rights movement in this country in the 1950s and beyond.
