In 1999, Gwendolyn Ann Smith started the Transgender Day of Remembrance as a vigil for Rita Hester, a trans woman who was killed the year before. Today we honour the transgender people whose lives have been lost to anti-transgender violence, and we rock out to some tunes by trans, queer, and gender non-conforming musicians.
