FreeWay was blessed to receive a message from Casey Sharperson this past Sunday. She continued study in 1 Corinthians, with the focus scripture coming from 1 Corinthians 13:1-8;13. In explaining the scripture, she shared how the Corinthian church faced many hurdles, and although they had many spiritual gifts, they were lacking in love. She reminded us that having love makes those gifts meaningful. According to her message, the scripture focuses on a specific kind of love: agape love, or “the highest expression of love.” It is the same love Jesus showed when he died and was raised for us. Casey offered these key take aways: 1.) Love is a spiritual gift - There's no power in our outward expressions of Christianity (spiritual gifts) without love. 2) Love is vulnerable - Loving others is a sacrificial act that may never be reciprocated, but Jesus modeled the ultimate love for us on the cross. 3) Love is the greatest gift - The greatest gift of all is love, it's freely given and does not calculate or keep track of the amount of love given.
She challenged us with following: What small adjustments can you make to create a big impact on loving others as Christ loves you? Pray about where and how God wants you to show agape love to someone in your life. “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love,” 1 Corinthians 13:13 (NIV) Selah
