This week on Over The Farm Gate, as we approach Christmas and the New Year, we take a look back at 2020. The ups, the downs, and everything in between, 2020 has had it all. In the food and agriculture industry, we have experienced many challenges and successes. With consumers’ newfound passion for local produce, independent butchers and milkmen have been at an advantage. However, for many others in the industry, the closure of the hospitality industry has brought on long-lasting challenges. This week we caught up with three businesses in the food industry to find out how 2020 affected them. We’re joined by Dan Metheringham from McCain and Gary Bradshaw, who set up a crowd funder to keep his business afloat, to give some insight into some of the challenges experienced by the industry with keeping food on plates.  And then at the other end of the supply chain, auction marts have faced a lot of changes this year. We caught up with Tom Greenow – an auctioneer at Gisburn Mart - who talks us through how auction marts have dealt with the “new normal” to become Covid secure.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
