This week on Over The Farm Gate, with only three days until Christmas, we’re speaking to those involved in growing our festive staples. Now we all know Christmas wouldn’t be the same without turkeys, Christmas trees and sprouts but, like many of us, the farmers growing our festive essentials have also faced uncertainty this year. With Covid restrictions still in place and impacting consumer behaviour, how is this affecting farming? The NFU and turkey farmers are encouraging consumers to buy whole birds and enjoy a Christmas turkey through the whole festive period. We are joined by turkey farmers Jade Stock and Thomas Pate to find out their thoughts on the lockdown and what this means for farmers around this time. With the UK cutting ties with Brussels in the New Year, we caught up with Alan Steven, a sprouts grower to discuss what this means for the future of an iconic part of Christmas dinner. Finally, you may have noticed Olly Combe’s Christmas tree outside 10 Downing St – we caught up with Olly, owner of York Christmas Trees and Heather Parry to discuss how the Covid pandemic has impacted growers. LinksNFU Turkey Finder - https://www.nfuonline.com/back-british-farming/uk-turkeys/York Christmas Trees - https://yorkchristmastrees.co.uk/ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
