College athletes can now earn money through the commercial use of their name image and likeness. It is still a long way from free market competition, but what the athletes had before was not at all fair to them, while their universities made billions. It serves as a reminder of past trade restrictions like race prohibitions in college competition and even going back to the racial evolution in professional sports.
