Even This North Dakota Native Didn't Know All The Facts! Welcome to April 19, 2023 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate keeping vampires at bay and the Peace Garden State. For date nights, it’s best to avoid eating anything with garlic in it. Unless your date involves hunting vampires. Folktales and superstitions vary around the world, but one of the things most everyone agrees on is that garlic is a good vampire deterrent. These blood suckers supposedly have heightened senses, which would explain why they would hate the smell so much. But there may be more to the legend. Garlic has medicinal properties and traditionally has been pretty easy to come by, even for the poor. So what better way to keep people from freaking out about monsters than to tell them some everyday item could keep them safe? On National Garlic Day, enjoy some of this delicious seasoning and leave monster hunting to the professionals. “I never would have been President if it had not been for my experiences in North Dakota”. Today is National North Dakota Day and we’re echoing the words of Teddy Roosevelt as we celebrate the Peace Garden State. North Dakota is our 39th state, number 1 in the nation for honey production and hosts the world’s largest French fry feed every year in Grand Forks. The geographical center of North America is in Rugby, and nearly 90% of North Dakota is farm or ranch land! North Dakota is big, over 66 times the size of Rhode Island with a third of its population so it’s a great place to find solitude in one of its 14 state parks and 2 National Parks. And North Dakota is my home, which is reason enough to celebrate. I’m Anna Devere, and I’m Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day.
