What is ego? In the Oxford dictionary under psychoanalysis, the ego is defined as the part of the mind that mediates between the conscious and the unconscious and is responsible for reality testing and a sense of personal identity. Unleashing our unlimited potential starts with the realization that we are not the character that we’ve built over time. A character that is based on ideas and images that have been continually submersed into our subconscious from embryo to this present moment. What does this mean? The mind and body act out what we personally identify ourselves with through conditioning. This is the truth. Our behaviors are zealously guarded by our ego. We are not the characters themselves nor the stories that we weave. We are the energy that powers the character that we choose to play. Our roles, and stories attached to them, can change when we decide to change them. The ego is a mental construct that operates with a need to protect the narrative, whether it be seemingly good or seemingly bad, and is always in survival mode.
