No one likes to believe in rumors, but most people enjoy passing them around. What’s the harm, right? There’s no way most of them are true. It strains credulity to believe that, for example, Billy Riley really has royal blood in his veins (royal to whom? From where?), or that Susan Santiago hasn’t slept in two years, and she spends each night pacing the halls with her eyes a milky white?
Such stories are the stuff of schoolyard gossip. The truth, far stranger, is often harder to speak aloud.
