More from G. Ott Romney's 1945 book, "Off the Job Living: A Modern Concept of Recreation and its Place in the Postwar World." Today's focus is on the public responsibility to provide wholesome opportunities for recreation--federal, state, county, and local governments should be developing these along with some commercial aspects as well. Recreation is one of the pillars of our democratic society, and if we build our foundation properly with recreation, the house will survive the storms and flourish to uplift culture.
