The TRUTH about Food and Travel
Broadcast Date:  06/05/23

While this segment has a lighthearted ring to it (toothpicks that were "Made In China") there is a MUCH more serious message here that we hope you'll consider.  In this episode, Elizabeth talks about purchasing a box of wooden toothpicks, and then discovers that they were made in China.  Think about that for a moment.  An American company that began making wooden toothpicks in 1881, is now importing them from China.

Some questions to consider:

What about the loss of American jobs?

What about the communites that are left devastated when a factory closes?

What about the families affected when that paycheck goes away?

How is it possible that it's a better business deal to import the toothpicks from Communist China, rather than make them here in the US?

Knowing the contamination of many products coming from China, are those toothpicks even safe to put in your mouth?

And finally, is the American store that sells those imported products any better than the Chinese government which forces it's citizens to work for low wages?

The answer comes down to cheap labor in China.  Apparently it's more profitable to import that box of toothpicks from overseas than to produce it here in the states.

There's something really wrong with this answer.   website:  FoodAndTravelNation.com
