Curiosity seeker, volunteer and coachable are a few words I would use to describe Alexia Hughes, Economic & Small Business SMUD team member, But she didn’t start out that way. She describes herself as a trouble maker during middle school years. As a result of her behavior, she was kicked out of high school. She finished her secondary education at a continuation school while working part-time. With the support of her grandmother and mentors she decided to turn her life around. She observed people who were “getting it right” and chose to ask questions and emulate their behavior. She took a cut in pay to gain experience that is serving her very well now. Her story illustrates that people who choose to, can turn things around if they humble themselves. Listen to find out how she did it.
