Description

At the end of the book of Judges in the Bible we find this statement: “In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.” The understanding being that without a King to provide a common standard, the people tended to default to their own perception of right. The implication, however, is that doing what was right, as defined by each individual, wasn’t necessarily the best way to life. I liken it to the phrase: “Looking out for number one.” This is a recipe for disaster.
