On the latest interview from the Announcer Schedules Podcast, Mike Gill and Phil de Montmollin enjoy a conversation with CBS Rules Analyst Gene Steratore on the eve of this year’s Super Bowl where Steratore will be part of the Westwood One broadcast. Steratore describes his journey from officiating to broadcasting, then goes into a deep dive on how the broadcast rules analyst works behind-the-scenes where he is often working multiple games at once. Steratore also describes the history of the rules analyst in television and how the role has evolved over time. Steratore, a former National Football League and NCAA basketball referee, joined CBS Sports in June 2018 as the NFL and NCAA Basketball Rules Analyst for the CBS Television Network’s coverage of the NFL and NCAA basketball seasons. He has served as the rules analyst for the network’s coverage of the Super Bowl and the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship and Final Four. This year, he will be calling the Super Bowl in Glendale, Arizona for Westwood One Radio.
