Liberia is the product of America's brief and only foray into colonialism. In fact, it was a colony designated for America's freed slaves. The result is disheartening but very interesting. In short, the oppressed became the oppressors. The Americo-Liberians became the political elite of the new country and subjugated the native peoples until a man Samuel Doe came along and changed everything. Today, Liberia is a land full of poverty, but maybe the future will bring better things to the beautiful country of Liberia.
