The 2023 college football season kicks off this week, and there’s no better place to start than by getting ready for the biggest game that will take place outside of the United States this year with Yards and Stripes.

Your look at all things service academy football begins with Price Atkinson and Steve Carney breaking down the changes that have taken place in Annapolis, as Navy has a new coaching staff. Brian Newberry takes the helm after being promoted to head coach from defensive coordinator, and he has brought in Grant Chestnut from Kennesaw State to run the Midshipmen offense. We take a look at the prospective wrinkles that could take place, making the triple-option offense run by Navy for decades look a little different in 2023. We also break down the quarterback battle, which could have as many as four different signal-callers under center at some point this year.

Navy starts the year by heading to Dublin for their annual matchup against Notre Dame, and we look at the new faces taking places for the Fighting Irish, especially graduate transfer quarterback Sam Hartman, who comes to South Bend after throwing for 13,000 yards during his career at Wake Forest. But you have to wonder if all the pressure in this game doesn’t fall squarely on the shoulders of Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman and his bosses because of the shifting landscape of college football and the television contract they’re seeking from a network partner like NBC, who they have been working with for over 30 years.

We also have our first honoree of 2023 for the Travis Manion Foundation Honor Roll, and wrap up the first show of the season with a prediction of this week’s big game. Can the Irish cover the 20 ½ point spread, or will the Midshipmen be able to keep things close enough for the underdog to prevail?
