This week on “Yards and Stripes,” Price Atkinson previews the two bowl games for our service academy teams this post season: Armed Forces Bowl (Dec. 23, 3:30 pm, ESPN) – Army (9-3) vs. San Diego State (10-2) and Military Bowl (Dec. 28, 1:30 pm, ESPN) – Navy (6-6) vs. Virginia (6-6).
Then it’s on to the interview portion of this week’s podcast and up first is Army beat writer Sal Interdonato to preview Army’s matchup on Saturday against San Diego State, the Black Knights coming off the emotional 14-13 win over Navy, senior QB Ahmad Bradshaw possible additional eligibility next season, the Black Knights’ injury situation going into the matchup with San Diego St and facing the nation’s leading rusher for San Diego State in Rashaad Penny (168 ypg).
Up next is Navy beat writer Bill Wagner to preview Navy’s matchup with Virginia in the Military Bowl. Price chats with Bill about if the Mids be motivated playing a bowl game in their home stadium, can Navy focus on the task after the emotional loss to Army, Malcolm Perry remaining at QB for Navy and trying to avoid just the second losing season since 2003.
Then in the final segment, Price honors 2004 West Point graduate David M. Fraser who graduated with honors and a degree in civil engineering. The 25-year old Houston native was killed Nov. 26, 2006 by an IED while serving in Baghdad. He was a member of the Army track and cross country teams.
